Did you know, that if you subscribe to Time Warner or Cox cable systems, that you have access to an International Movies On Demand channel? I’m not talking about the international films already available on the usual Movies On Demand channel, but a completely separate selection of foreign titles on a completely different part of your cable menu? If you have Time Warner, this section can be found at Channel 500.What this provides you, is a deeper offering of recent foreign language titles. In fact, there are five sections: Bollywood, French, Italian, Japanese, and World (this last one is sort of a catch-all section). This is where you can find the Greek musical Dying In Athens, the Japanese horror film God’s Left Hand, Devil’s Right Hand, and the Israeli drama For My Father. For July and August, we are adding Alexander Sokurov’s acclaimed period piece, The Sun, to this channel. Released by Kino Lorber on DVD this summer, Sokurov’s epic is a humorous depiction of Japanese Emperor Hirohito during the final days of World War II. Check it out, as well as some of the other foreign films sitting on this channel.
