A ferry-commuting accountant, Max (Eric Stoltz), finally decides to introduce himself to a beautiful passenger, Rory, who he has noticed for years. In order to protect herself from getting hurt, Rory demands a contract be made listing the rules of their relationship. However Max soon finds out that he is not the only one engaged in such practices.
