Rating: 4.5/5 (2 votes cast)

At the dawn of the 21st century, renegade toy designers, bored with the G.I. Joe status quo, boldly remixed and reassembled the toys of their parent's generation. Birthing a new format of toy and medium of artistic expression, these artists were the first to explore The Vinyl Frontier. A world where Art is Fun!
Why It's FilmBuff
Vinyl Frontier definitely gives insight to the subculture of vinyl toy collectors, but more importantly, the film speaks to anyone that is a collector of anything. There’s human desire to collect, and this documentary demonstrates that on a very real level. Our hobbies and collections help us give ourselves an identity and that self-identification is something that connects us all.

Film Reviews:
  • "Though production values are rough, the discussion topics prove unusually philosophical, attempting to situate these "toys" in the broader art conversation."
